01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Lifting a portion of soba neatly arranged on a bamboo seiro mat brings a waft of fresh buckwheat aroma alongside a clean, pleasant chew. Musashi-Koyama's Kurata crafts its handmade noodles using Aizu-no-Kaori buckwheat flour; tasting the first strand with just a pinch of salt before dipping into the tsuyu broth highlights the grain's natural roundness. The three-region seiro flight lets guests compare buckwheat sourced from different production areas side by side, and smaller supplementary seiro servings can also be ordered to explore variations in milling and regional character at your own pace.

Fragrant Fried Dishes and Seasonal Kappo Fare

The menu of single dishes designed to precede the noodles is equally considered. A popular sakura shrimp and garland chrysanthemum kakiage fritter delivers a light, crisp batter where the herbal bitterness of the greens balances the fragrant sweetness of tiny shrimp, best appreciated with salt alongside the dipping sauce. Seasonal tempura such as glass shrimp, maitake mushrooms, or oysters, assorted fresh sashimi platters, and combinations pairing sushi with a seiro basket all showcase the refined detail typical of traditional kappo cooking.

Relaxed Dining Alongside Bottles from Across Japan

The drinks list is assembled with equal care to accompany the meal. Beyond sakes like Daishichi Junmai Kimoto and Taka Tokubetsu Junmai, options include sparkling sake and house soda made with domestic pesticide-free lemons. The interior features a calm modern Japanese design with counter seats, sunken horigotatsu seating, and private rooms, accommodating everything from a quiet solo lunch to a leisurely celebratory dinner.
